WordPress hosting in Norway: what to look for
Your host decides how fast your site is, how secure it is, and how quickly you are back if something goes wrong. It also decides who can get at your data. Here is what matters.
1. Where does the site live – and the backups?
Don’t just ask where the server is; ask where the backups go. Many providers run servers locally but send backups to a global cloud. At WP24 both the site and every backup stay in Norway, in two different locations, on hardware we own.
2. GDPR, the EEA and data sovereignty
Norway is part of the EEA and the GDPR applies in full. Because WP24 does not use US cloud providers for customer data, your hosting stack is not subject to US providers’ terms or infrastructure. For many public bodies, healthcare, finance and privacy-conscious businesses, that makes compliance documentation much simpler.
3. Backups you can actually use
Backups should be taken outside WordPress, every day, of both files and database. You should be able to choose from many points in time and restore yourself, without waiting for support. Check that a backup is also taken before updates.
4. Security switched on from the start
Automated attacks try passwords, upload malware through vulnerable plugins and plant webshells. Good WordPress hosting blocks PHP in uploads, stops password guessing, scans for malware and keeps websites isolated from each other.
5. Safe updates
Outdated plugins are the most common way in for attackers. Automatic updates are important – but only if the host takes a backup first and rolls back when something breaks.
6. Dev and staging
Changes should be tested before they go live. Look for hosts that give you dev and staging environments at no extra cost.
7. A control panel you understand
You should be able to see status, take backups, restore and log in to wp-admin without technical knowledge. For agencies, seeing every site in one place and giving colleagues access is essential.

Questions and answers
Why host WordPress in Norway?
Norway is part of the EEA, so the GDPR applies in full. Hosting in Norway with a Norwegian provider on its own hardware means your site, database and backups are not handled by US hyperscalers, which makes it simpler to document where personal data is stored.
Is Norway in the EU?
